Jyotish Yoga Sastra University is authorized to offer education programs and degrees under Florida Statute 1005.06 (1)(f). Although formal accreditation is not available for fields like Yoga, Jyotish and related subjects in the United States or India, we maintain affiliations with respected peer organizations and remain committed to pursuing accreditation when applicable bodies emerge. The lack of accreditation does not diminish the university’s ability to confer higher education awards, as it aligns with the authorization provided by the Commission of Independent Education. This authorization is in line with specific guidelines, which state that the institution provides education programs preparing students for religious vocations, including ministry, counselling, theology, education administration, music, fine arts, media communication, or social work.

According to U.S. law, universities, particularly religious institutions, operate independently with limited government intervention. They have the freedom to design their curricula, including programs like Yoga and Jyotish, based on their educational goals. Accreditation is optional, with institutions deciding on the process. Subject classification as ‘Religion’ aligns with constitutional guidelines, ensuring minimal state intervention and upholding institutional autonomy for religious programs.
In India, a “University” is recognized under Central, Provincial, or State Acts, contingent on UGC (University Grants Commission) approval. Most institutions require accreditation, except those established by an Act of Parliament. Yoga education programs, governed by Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956, promote yoga education and health. The Ministry of Higher Education follows the 1956 Act, with the UGC setting standards for various institution categories. In the context of accreditation bodies, there is no established national policy and accreditation body for Yoga in India at the moment. Once such an authority is established, Jyotish Yoga Sastra University will initiate the necessary steps to secure the required approvals.

The degree titles conferred by Jyotish Yoga Sastra University adhere to the regulations outlined in section 1005.04. The programs offered by the university include: Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science, Doctor of Philosophy, and Doctor of Education. The titles of degrees issued by the institution cannot be confused with secular degree titles. Ex: Doctor of Philosophy in Vedanga Jyotisha.
The religious modifier must be placed on the title line of the degree, on the transcript, and whenever the title of the degree appears in official school documents or publications.
The university offers only educational programs that prepare students for religious vocations as ministers, professionals, or laypersons in the categories of ministry, counseling, theology, education, administration, music, fine arts, media communications or social work.
